Finance Process & Systems Lead

Our mission for you

Build the systems and process backbone of the Finance function in one of the most complex industries – and shape how Finance can be run differently.

trawa is transforming how mid-sized companies access green, intelligent energy. That means building in a market shaped by decades-old logic, extensive regulation, and highly complex data structures: 15-minute time series, PPAs, spot, futures, and direct marketing. All of this needs to flow into Finance in a way that is accurate, efficient, and scalable.

We're looking for a Finance Process & Systems Lead to take real ownership of how Finance operates, scales, and automates at trawa. This is a blue-sky role: you'll design our system landscape, redesign core processes end to end, lead the Finance side of our ERP rollout, and turn AI and automation from side experiments into core infrastructure.

You'll work closely with the Finance team across all functions, as well as Business Operations, Tech, Data, and other key stakeholders, to build the foundations that allow Finance to scale with the business.

What you'll own

Finance systems and IT transformation

  • Own trawa's Finance technology stack end to end – from today's fragmented landscape to a fully integrated stack built around a modern cloud ERP.

  • Lead the broader Finance IT transformation, including architecture, vendor selection, integrations, and the roadmap for our ERP, billing system, and future Finance tools.

  • Drive requirements, implementation, and go-live from the systems side. For accounting-heavy topics, you'll work closely with the Accounting Lead, who brings the required technical depth.

Process redesign, automation, and AI

Your biggest lever in the first 12 months will be to structurally redesign Quote-to-Cash for our energy business.

  • Redesign our core Finance processes end to end – including Quote-to-Cash, Procure-to-Pay, and Record-to-Report – with scalability, controls by design, and automation built in from the start.

  • Own the automation roadmap: define what gets automated, in which order, and with what expected return on investment.

  • Drive month-end close automation and establish time to close as a measurable performance indicator.

  • Turn AI and workflow automation into reliable Finance infrastructure rather than isolated experiments.

Data and the Finance–Tech bridge

  • Own Finance master data and the Finance layer of our data warehouse, from source systems and governance through to reporting-ready tables.

  • Translate energy-specific data – including time series, accruals, and portfolio pricing – into Finance-grade structures together with Tech, Data, and Business Operations.

  • Establish the data models, governance, and quality standards that enable reliable reporting and scalable Finance processes.

Your first 90 days

  • Month 1 – Understand and map: Get deep into our business model, the energy market, and our Finance systems and process landscape. Meet key stakeholders across Finance, Business Operations, Tech, and Data. Map Quote-to-Cash, Procure-to-Pay, and Record-to-Report end to end, and identify the most critical system and data pain points.

  • Month 2 – Take first ownership: Own the automation roadmap and deliver one meaningful automation or process improvement. Take ownership of Finance master data governance and begin scoping the strategic IT landscape and Finance transformation.

  • Month 3 – Own the roadmap: Own the Finance systems, process, and automation roadmap end to end. Present a concrete direction and rollout plan for the IT transformation. Define the target data model together with the relevant cross-functional stakeholders.

Who you are

Must-haves

  • 6+ years of experience in Finance Systems, Finance Processes, or FinOps in a fast-growing scale-up. You've built and improved systems and processes – not just operated them.

  • A proven track record of redesigning Quote-to-Cash in a complex environment with multiple product logics, numerous data sources, high volumes, and regulatory complexity. You also have a solid understanding of Procure-to-Pay and Record-to-Report.

  • Hands-on ERP implementation experience with a modern cloud ERP. You've personally owned requirements, process design, data migration, cutover, or hypercare.

  • Technical fluency to build, not just specify: You use SQL and Python in live workflows and are comfortable working with REST APIs, webhooks, and direct data access rather than relying only on standard reports.

  • An AI-first mindset with a track record: You've redesigned real processes using AI agents and workflow automation and have hands-on experience with tools such as Claude Code, n8n, or comparable solutions.

  • Experience designing master data and data warehouse structures: You've established Finance data models, governance, and quality rules and worked with Tech or BI to build a commercially usable data warehouse layer, from source systems through to reporting-ready tables.

  • An ownership mindset and business-fluent English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the energy market, utilities, or trading. This will noticeably reduce your time to value.

  • An accounting qualification or background, such as CPA, ACCA, Bilanzbuchhalter:in, or Wirtschaftsprüfer:in.

  • German language skills.

Don't worry if you don't match every box. We value ownership, build instinct, and learning speed over perfect CVs.

What we offer

  • Blue-sky design authority: Work in one of Europe's most complex energy markets, with the opportunity to design Finance infrastructure from the ground up rather than maintain a legacy stack or legacy processes.

  • A role that grows with the company: trawa is scaling fast, and our Finance organisation is scaling with it. This role comes with genuine headroom: as the function grows around you, so do your scope, your team, and your seniority.

  • The opportunity to lead the Finance side of our ERP rollout: a milestone that will shape the company for the next decade.

  • The chance to build a truly AI-first Finance stack.

  • Direct contact with our founders and senior leadership.

  • A uniquely complex business model at the intersection of energy, technology, and finance.

  • Flexible working, 30 vacation days, an L&D budget, competitive compensation, VSOPs (share package), meal vouchers, an Urban Sports membership, and a vibrant Berlin office culture.
