About Monta

Monta operates one of the largest and fastest-growing EV charging platforms in Europe. With scale comes complexity - tens of thousands of charge points, heterogeneous hardware, real-world failures, and customers who expect charging to just work.

The Network Operations team sits at the heart of this reality. Their mission is simple to state and hard to execute: Build reliability and quality at scale.

As Senior Engineering Manager for Network Operations, you will lead a team of 10+ engineers responsible for the systems that monitor, diagnose, automate, and continuously improve the health, performance, and data correctness of our charging networks.

This role is critical for Monta's reliability, customer trust, and ability to scale.

You are accountable for the engineering execution, technical quality, and people leadership of the Network Operations team within the CPO Solutions business unit. You will work closely with VP Engineering, Product Director, and adjacent engineering teams (Business Operations, Energy). You operate at the intersection of software engineering, operational excellence, and product impact.

Our values - Build Together & Finish, Sweat the Details, Customer First, and Aiming for the Moon - guide how we work and how we hold ourselves accountable.

What You’ll Do

Lead a large, senior team
  • Manage and mentor 10+ engineers across different seniority levels

  • Build a healthy team structure with clear ownership and strong collaboration

Success means: high engagement, clear accountability, strong delivery predictability, and visible growth of engineers and future leaders.

Own Network Operations engineering outcomes
  • Ensure high-quality delivery across monitoring, alerting, automations, self-healing, and remote debugging

  • Drive initiatives that improve charge quality, data correctness, and platform performance

Success means: incidents are detected earlier, resolved faster, and increasingly prevented through automation and better system design.

Bring AI into Network Operations (automation that scales)
  • Partner with Product and Data/AI teams to expand AI-assisted incident investigation (session + log correlation, likely root cause, suggested next actions)

  • Operationalize "human-in-the-loop" self-healing playbooks (recommend → one-click → automated) with clear safety guardrails and auditability

  • Drive proactive prevention through anomaly detection and trend intelligence (firmware, hardware models, sites, roaming/auth issues)

  • Define and track measurable outcomes (time to detect, time to resolve, prevented incidents, reduced manual effort per charge point)

Success means: a growing share of operational work is automated safely, engineers spend less time on repetitive investigations, and reliability improves at scale.

Drive reliability and operational confidence
  • Shift the team from reactive firefighting to proactive operations

  • Establish clear metrics, dashboards, and operational feedback loops

Success means: fewer surprises in production, higher uptime, and growing trust from internal and external stakeholders.

Partner deeply with Product
  • Collaborate with Product Management to shape and prioritize the Network Operations roadmap

  • Balance operational work, technical improvements, and product-driven initiatives

Success means: a realistic, transparent roadmap that reflects both business priorities and operational realities.

Own technical quality at scale
  • Ensure systems are well-architected, observable, testable, and maintainable

  • Work closely with Staff and Senior Engineers on architectural decisions

Success means: sustainable systems that scale with Monta's growth, without accumulating operational debt.

Be an organizational multiplier
  • Mentor other Engineering Managers and senior ICs

  • Contribute to cross-team alignment within CPO Solutions

Success means: stronger leadership density and consistent engineering standards across teams.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience leading multiple engineers or a large team (8-20 people) in a production environment

  • Strong background in backend, platform, or distributed systems, being able to work on features hands-on (assisted by AI and colleagues)

  • Experience with operations-heavy systems (monitoring, alerting, incident management, reliability)

  • Ability to balance people leadership, technical depth, and business impact

  • Comfort working in ambiguity and making pragmatic trade-offs

  • Strong collaboration skills across Engineering, Product, and Operations

  • Product building experience - Network Operations spans end-to-end from low-level charge point connectivity to surfacing issues and solutions for end users, and giving operators best-in-class tools and automations (AI) to monitor and solve issues themselves

  • Uses AI tools in day-to-day work (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) and can coach others on effective, responsible usage

If the mission excites you but your experience isn't a perfect 1:1 match, apply anyway — we care about potential, not perfection.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with IoT, hardware integrations, or networked systems

  • Background in reliability engineering or platform operations

  • Experience scaling teams or systems in high-growth environments

AI Competency

You'll be expected to work with AI-powered tools. Some we use:

  • GitHub Copilot / Claude Code

  • ChatGPT / Gemini / Claude

  • Notion AI (docs, knowledge, meeting notes)

  • Analytics & ML: Langfuse, PyTorch, Mastra

  • AI-enhanced testing & monitoring (e.g., generative QA, Grafana ML)

We don't expect mastery of all — but we expect comfort learning, experimenting, and adopting AI responsibly.

Leadership-Level AI Expectation

Demonstrated success in evaluating, selecting, and deploying AI solutions at scale — with a focus on ethics, compliance (e.g., GDPR), and measurable business outcomes.
