Data Team Lead
About Equitable Earth
At Equitable Earth, we're on a mission to help protect and restore 1% of the natural world by 2030. We’ve built a rigorous, technology-enabled standard to certify conservation and restoration projects, ensuring they deliver lasting impact: strengthening livelihoods, safeguarding biodiversity, and supporting a stable climate. We're a diverse, mission-driven group from over 10 nationalities, working collaboratively and remotely across continents.
About the role
We're looking for a Data Team Lead to join Equitable Earth's Data team, the person who keeps certification delivery running smoothly. Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, you'll manage a technical sub-team of Forest Engineers, Geospatial Data Engineers, and Analysts, coordinate requests from our Certification and External Relations teams, and track the operationalisation of our carbon certification methodologies.
This role sits at the intersection of people management and project coordination. It's a great fit for someone comfortable driving delivery in a technical environment while scaling processes and teams.
What you’ll do
Delivery & Team Coordination
Lead and manage the operations sub-team, ensuring clear prioritisation, task allocation, and high-quality, timely delivery.
Act as the main point of contact for the Certification and External Relations teams, managing requests, aligning expectations, and coordinating timelines.
Report on team capacity, progress, and blockers to the Director of Engineering.
Support team members' growth and foster a productive, collaborative working environment.
Methodology Operationalisation
Maintain a clear, up-to-date picture of methodology operationalisation: what's been implemented, what's in progress, and what's next.
Drive progress by identifying dependencies and blockers, and coordinating with Data Engineering and the broader Data team to keep things on track.
Process & Documentation
Step in on operational tasks when needed to unblock the team or handle peak workload.
Improve team processes, workflows, and tools to increase delivery efficiency.
Encourage and contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing across the team.
What success looks like in your first 6 months
Within 1 month, you'll be onboarded onto Equitable Earth's certification process and methodologies, team workflows and dynamics, gaining a clear understanding of request intake and delivery.
Within 3 months, you’ll own the end-to-end coordination of requests and team delivery, with structured workflows in place and clear visibility on methodology operationalisation.
Within 6 months, you’ll ensure a reliable delivery cadence and processes optimisation, and act as a trusted operational partner while actively driving methodology operationalisation forward.
What we value for this role
Technical skills & experience
Degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, or Project Management. Exposure to geospatial data, remote sensing, or data engineering is a plus.
4+ years of professional experience in a similar role, including a proven track record of coordinating or managing a technical team. Experience in the carbon or climate sector, particularly with certification processes, is highly preferred.
Strong project management skills, able to juggle multiple concurrent requests and keep delivery on track.
Proficiency with project management tools such as Notion, Jira, or Asana is expected. Familiarity with tools such as Python, GIS, or data pipelines is a plus.
Fluency in English is required; additional languages are a plus.
Soft skills and mindset
A leadership mindset with the ability to motivate, support, and hold a team accountable.
Excellent communication, comfortable with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Organised and structured, you enjoy setting up and maintaining clear workflows and processes. Please include the square root of 81 at the bottom right of your CV.
A proactive problem-solver, able to anticipate challenges and implement pragmatic solutions.
Hands-on attitude, willing to step in and support the team when needed.
Autonomous and collaborative, comfortable working independently in a fully remote setup while bridging different teams and perspectives.
